APQP: a vital approach to guaranteeing product quality

" How can we ensure that our products reach a high level of industrial maturity? "

This question posed to Axsens by the Quality Director of a multinational reflects the concerns of many companies. That's why we decided to talk to you about APQP 🙂 !

APQP

APQP, Advanced Product Quality Planning, has as its primary objective the achievement of industrial maturity. While the Lean Six Sigma methodology can of course be used to improve process performance, the APQP approach can be summed up in simple terms: do it right, the first time!

"For decades, automotive companies have been using APQP to manufacture products with very impressive levels of performance. The automotive industry is far ahead of the aerospace industry, which started using APQP (approach & associated cores tools) only a few years ago. The benefits of this proactive, preventive approach to quality are only just beginning to be felt", explains Moumen El Fassi, APQP expert at Axsens.

APQP can be used in all sectors where quality is a key issue. Several elements need to be integrated with this approach: solid planning encompassing all key elements, regular monitoring and control steps, using robust methods such as FMEA (Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis), and one of the major elements of APQP: thecontrol plan.

"The elements of APQP are essential, but they also require effort. So you need a team to put in place not only the tools, but also the whole process and the organization to support it, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy all the benefits of APQP," points out Moumen El Fassi.

Axsens assists companies in the reflection and deployment of APQP, taking into account international standards and best practices from the field. The aim is to adapt APQP to the specific needs of each business, while empowering teams so that they can implement the approach internally over the long term.

The end result is a genuine culture of "industrial maturity" deployed across all company sites.
