The concept of Supply Chain in 1958 with systems theory and encompasses a holistic view of a company's environment.
This is referred to as an extended enterprise and the relationships that exist between it and its suppliers, its suppliers' suppliers, its customers, and its customers' customers.
Relationships are viewed through the prism of three flows: the material flow, which is the basis of relationships, and two related flows, the information flow and the financial flow.
